The wit of Oscar Wilde to grace CSU Factory stage

The Cleveland Theatre Company and Cleveland State University Theatre Arts will be presenting a world-premiere, original compilation of the life and works of one of the Western world's foremost wits and notorious bon vivant, Oscar Wilde. Written by Gordon Williams, A Wilde Evening opens Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m. at CSU's Factory Theatre at the corner of E. 24th

Scott Plate as Oscar Wilde.

Street and Chester Ave. in downtown Cleveland.

A Wilde Evening features excerpts from Wilde's own works, and from transcripts from his infamous trials, when he was convicted of "indecent behavior" as a result of his friendship with a younger man, the son of an aristocrat. While his greatest theatrical success, The Importance of Being Earnest, played to capacity crowds in London's West End, Wilde was serving a prison sentence of two years' hard labor.

A Wilde Evening will run through Sunday, August 11. Call 216-687-2109 after Monday June 24 for reservations.

New clinical trials

The National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland is recruiting volunteers for HIV and AIDS-related studies to evaluate new therapies and diagnostic strategies. HIV positive volunteers are needed for studies in immunization, antiviral therapy, interleukin treatment, and CMV viral load evaluations. People with HIV or AIDS are also needed to test oral anti-HIV drugs and remedies for Kaposi's sarcoma.

People without HIV are being recruited for vaccination trials. The studies involve experimental therapies of which the risks are not known. Trials are open to anyone 18 years or older, and many have CD4+ count requirements. Payment for participating and traveling is offered in some studies. For more information call the National Cancer Institute of the NIH at 301-496-8959, or call 800-243-7644 for a detailed list of all current trials.
